Well, the Great Nanny Debate is yet to be resolved. I made my decision on Saturday — I couldn’t do this if Little Miss was the only child, because we simply can’t afford to pay minimum wage to a Nanny all on our own.
But then yesterday, I received an email from a woman at work that wants to nanny share with me. Of course, she is traveling for the next two weeks, so it will be hard to get final resolution on this while she is gone, but perhaps it is still an option. I just don’t know.
Little Miss came down with a cold on Saturday, and promptly gave it to me (my daughter is generous with her germs, for sure). We were scheduled to have her 1 year portraits taken on Saturday, but when she woke up SCREAMING and went down for a nap one hour later, I figured it best to cancel.
But, you see, I wanted a pic of her in the buff… And Pennies has a policy not to take those pics after your child is a year old. So I was under deadline. We made it in on Sunday, my coughing child and I, for her very first pic au natural.
The family from hell was in front of us, with SIX kids, and I swear none of the parents were older than 18. There were pissed off 6 week old babies, and they just had to wait until those babies were happy so that they could get a group shot. By the time they were finished, we had waited 45 minutes past our appointment time.
Little Miss’s new found mobility made this portrait session extra challenging, as she kept trying to crawl away. “She has so much life in her,” exclaimed the photographer, “but she won’t sit still long enough for me to shoot it!”
I finally decided we needed a container for the portrait, and requested the tub prop and stripped her down to the buff. We got some really cute and tasteful bath tub shots (which will make for an adorable decoration in our bathroom). And then they took an oh so cute shot of Little Miss sitting with her back to the camera next to a teddy bear also facing away from the camera. You see her adorable little butt crack as she looks down at the teddy bear. Way too cute! Will post online as soon as I get the digital images.
Anyway, Little Miss got progressively more sick during our Super Bowl get together, and proceeded to go to bed at 6:30pm and sleep for 13 hours. I stayed home with her yesterday, and today, I have a nanny (provided through work) at home with her as I frantically try to catch up at work. Last night was rough, as my coughing was keeping me up, and then her coughing was keeping her up, and it was a nasty cycle. I walked into the office feeling like a zombie, but luckily, the two cups of coffee have kicked in, and I actually feel human again.
So that’s the update from me. Meanwhile, I am beginning to have a mild panic attack about her party on Saturday. We have way more people attending than I intended (who would guess that everyone would RSVP and many would bring additional guests?!). I tend to panic when I have 2 people over for dinner, so imagine my anxiety of 20 people! I have consulted with Mom (aka, Martha Stewart), and think I can pull it off. But, thanks to Little Miss’s illness, my plans of taking Friday off for party preparations is now a pipe dream.
That’s all the rambling I have in me for today.
