This morning, I heard that there was a police stand-off in our neighborhood, and that homes in our area were being evacuated. Luckily, JB and I were safely at work by that time.
The story says that shots were heard at 7:15 am, which is about the time all three of our dogs started barking like crazy in the garage. You have to wonder if they were hearing things we couldn’t!
Deputies say a domestic situation that forced the evacuation of area homes resulted in the deaths of a Carson City couple.
Police responded around 7:15 AM on reports of shots fired.
Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the scene and cordoned off the area around the home on Hawaii Circle.
Police were unsuccessful in contacting anyone inside the home and stormed the home around 10:30 AM. Sheriff Ken Furlong says when they entered they found the bodies of a male and female in the home.
Deputies told News 4 the man was former corrections officer and the woman was employed by the Department of Corrections. They say the couple has a history of domestic violence and that the man had a restraining order against him.
The Director of the Nevada Department of Corrections, Jackie Crawford, identified the woman as Shelly Hachenberger.
Crawford expressed her condolences to Hachenberger’s family and said Hachenberger was one of the department’s finest staff members, a hard worker and a devoted team member.
The area has been reopened to traffic and residents have been allowed to return to their homes.
